The design threads were once tightly packed. Somehow in the finishing process I managed to dislocate many and didn't recognize it right away.

Blame the Devil for loosening the threads. Nice job...sort of. I hope you hit him with a $50 Duke surcharge.

It looks good from here. Next time that happens to you let me know and I'll tell you how to fix it.

The Finish does have a tendancy to bring out the small problem areas. Did you use CP first or just put the finish on raw thread?

Doc, I used two coats of 811, followed by two thin coats of PermaGolss, followed by a thin coat of ThreadMaster, letting each coat dry. The handle and reel seat were then installed. Since several days had passed since the first coat of ThreadMaster, I decided to clean the epoxied area with DNA and abrade it with ScotchBrite. I think I was too agressive with the ScotchBrite and got into the weave threads a bit - at least I think that might be what happened, since the threads were fairly well packed, at several times.
I used a maroon colored ScotchBrite obtained from a sponsor, instead of the usual grey ScotchBrite. Between me and the maroon ScotchBrite, I nearly screwed up the weave. A lesson was learned.
