Sorry for the low quality photo, but I wanted to share pics on another shark caught near Seaside, Florida in early June 2006. The angler is Trey Falconer of Thomasville, GA. This shark taped 6'2" tip-to-tip and had him down to a dozen turns of line no less than three times.
The rod is a Rainshadow SU1266F built using the New Concept guide set up described several times in RodMaker magazine. The guides were Fuji Alconites sized 30-20-12-10s out to a size 10 BMNAT top. The rod casts great and will pass shock leaders up to 80 lbs. with no problems. Refer to RM Volume 7 #1 for details.
I also built this same blank as a casting rod using a modified O'Quinn spiral wrap and size 16 running guides and I definitely get more distance out of the casting configuration than I do with spinning. Both fight fish extremely well.
Thanks to Tom K. and Bob McKamey for all their help and instruction in building these rods.
