1st tartan I've done. Used Madeira thread and NCP accents.

The Madeira got lighter & transparant? Each time I put epoxy on Madeira, it gets darker, and I get all sorts of epoxy not sticking to teh thread. Can you elaborate mroe as to what you did - either here or via e-mail - I'm really curious about how you did this.

Billy,

I think he may not have used CP, if you leave off the CP, the finish will fish eye because of the silicone in the thread, i learned this the hard way

Ralph, that's one of the things I don't get. The other is the Madeira not becoming transparent the same was Nylon does. Maybe it's only certain colors? I dunno, that's why Jim is being summoned to respond, lol.

O.K. guys. Thats right, NO CP was used. Nothing but thread and epoxy (Thread Master). I never have got "fish eyes" with no CP and Madeira thread.

The colors used were Madeira white 1803, yellow 1924, green 1749, red 1878 and Gudebrod NCP white on the blank, NCP yellow, NCP scarlet and, Pacific Bay "stay True" (NCP) green (T100A-GR) for accent bands

The no 'fish eyes' thing is baffling to me. I did notice with non cp'd madeira, that if you stay with the finish into its set up time, constantly moving finish over a thread thats resisting finish...something has to win eventually. Has to be a scientific "cohesionastic" explanation for this. Nice wrap Jim, never done a tartan before myself, but if I do, I probablly wouldn't use Madiera unless it was used as an NCP type accent thread....sometimes i just hate non 'rodbuilding threads"!

Was this done on a white blank or did you paint it white to start?
