Is that tinted/marbled permagloss? How does it hold up to normal handling, scratching, etc?

Steve,
No, I tried Permagloss and it didn't do me a good job of marbling. That is Permagloss on the buckeye wood. I used a 2 part fiberglass rosin for the initial marbling and followed it up with a coat of Threadmaster.

Is that a trim ring or thread between the grip and the seat?

Bill,
That was done with metallic thread and covered with Permagloss.
