I only ruined one butt cap figuring out how to do this. I think doing it this way as opposed to the other way I planned will prevent it from getting all scratched up, plus it's a WHOLE LOT easier doing it this way - 2 plusses.

Really cool. I tried something similar last year hitch-hiking off of a concept I think Tom Kirkman posted, and still use it - prep a good recess area in the grip or end cap (I've been turning them out on a lathe, but cutting it out seems to have worked nicely for you), print what you want in the right size (which took me a few trials to lock) onto good photopaper, dry, trim the object out of the photopaper (I got circle cutters from a hobby store to help with this), stick it down into the end cap with CP, dry, spray over with Krylon fixative, dry, fill in/over with epoxy finish but not to the top, keep recessed a bit, cure, let cure some more, go fishing. I was aprehensive about color fade and scratching/damage but it hasnt been a problem for me maybe 'cause it hasnt been long enough or doesnt get much sun exposure at that end of the rod and its recessed enough to keep from ketting scratched...also I dont drop the butt end down on much other than carpeted boat flooring or grass. Not a recommendation, not even a suggestion, just a comment.

Steve - this is a Fuji BRC22 butt cap - are you using this to make a recess? If so, I'd love to know how, it's really a tough material. I popped the end out with an exacto on a tool rest - somethign which you need to be extremely careful doing, and hope the razor blade doesn't slip or wander on the cap, or it will ruin the butt cap. I filled it with epoxy adn didnt' go all teh way to teh top, hoping to prevent scratches. IT's not like ANYONE will notice it anyhow, it's just cool to have a beer butt cap.
