Damn Ralph that really looks good. The yellow just jumps off the rod and the rest of blends beautifully . You got a real winner there.

Looking at that wrap literally made me smile. Very beautiful. Care to share the colors and make of threads?

James, Thank you, for some reason my camera makes the wrap look more blue than purple which it is, i also really liked the effect of the yellow thread to "light it up".......

Ralph, very nice!! Those are the Blue/Cobalt-ish Purple shades of Purple, I like those a lot myself. I had a hard time photographing them myself.

No CP troubles for you, at least from teh picture, thank goodness! Good job.

HI Billy,

Thanks......as far as CP goes i only use #811 full strengthfor three coats. I did have one issue on a different wrap that was closed in black, it seems as though after the second coat you have to be carefull because if you put too much on, when it dries, it seems to put a crystalized sheen that you can notice on black thread. but with out three coats the maderia will get some dark patches. What i do now is after two coats, if i am closing in black, i try to put the third coat on with a fine brush and do my best to only coat the maderia.

Sweet wrap, Ralph!! I noticed the crystals on the last wrap I put CP on, Madeira 1922, dark purple.....but no dark blotches on the lighter parts of the wrap.

exactly Sean, it seems as though if you put too much you get the crystal effect if you dont put enough you risk blotching

That's part of the problem with dark threads & 811. My current method is thinned 811, I put a really heavy coat on, then go back to teh beginning and wick off teh excess. The threads turn darker at first - this let's me know the CP is thin enough. Once that dries, I repeat with a second coat, again wicking most of it off. This has prevented blotches, as well as most of the crystals.

Another way those crystals get there is if you apply the foam that gets up in teh brush to teh wrap. Make sure you wick the brush each time you dip it - NO FOAM. I "figured" this out on those double butt wrap rods, I was wicking the brush off on teh section of the wrap that would be covered with thread, and when it dried it was almost white.

i am gonna try thinning it next time, what you say makes alot of sense, because if it is thinned it will soak in better also

If you can adjust your camera's "white balance" setting for flourescent light, you may find the color in your photos will be much truer. Still looks good, not matter what shade of blue it's supposed to be.
