I wanted to share with all of you my last experiment... Where I live in France I am surrounded by vineyards, so I have asked to one of the guy I know to give me some cork, the one he uses for his barrels... I have shaped an handle with it and the result exceed my expectations. The look is great and the handle looks "denser" and more solid.

Indeed, it really looks like burl Ellis but you can feel that it is more compact...they were new and unused cork cap ( we name it "bonde" in French)otherwise my handle would have smelt good vine!!!

I thought it was used cork. I kept getting these hints of boysenberry, chocholate with overtones of plum and tannins. Or maybe it was the Merlot that I had with dinner last night.

Ellis, you should try with the cap of an old whisky barrel/cask...
I am not joking at all, a few years ago, just to have fun, I have shaped an entire cork reel seat with three of those caps and it turned out great!! It was supposed to be a joke but my friend is still using it on his fly rod, and guess what...it still smells Whisky!!! At the beginning it was an old cherry barrel/cask...Can you imagine the flavour????!!!
