Both guides were attacked with a triangular file. The photo says it all. Recoil failed while the Zirconium (maker unknown) passed with only a discolored area or scratch which cannot be felt. You can see the blue scratch just left of the 6 o'clock area.

With all the discussion regarding the hardness of the REC Recoil titanium alloy
I thought I would just have to see for myself.
Holo zirconium ring barely suffered a surface scratch while I could have cut the
recoil straight through if I had continued. Spent 5min attacking each guide with the file.

Nothing answers questions better than actual experiments. Thanks for sharing your results.

Next time you are fishing with triangular file line and a fish makes a 5 minute run, you'll be glad you are using the left guides....unless they are so corroded it falls off teh rod - lol!

I thought I mentioned that I still really like the Recoil guides dispite
the test results. I see now that I didn't. Hardness is not the only attribute that makes up a great line guide.
