This sure looks like a fine start! When you rig your thread carriage be sure to include spool type tensioners.

Why is the pulley so big? Not being critical, it looks great, I'm wondering if there is an avantage to making it large like that? Thread Carriage - It depends how many spools you plan to use while wrapping. Do you wrap a lot of rods? If you wrap several rods per month, where you use different colors, you may want to build a 6, 8, or 20 spool thread carriage. This will allow you to load up all the colors you normally use, and never take them off teh carriage. If you plan to do butt wraps where you use the carriage to wrap bands of thread, you may want to make an 8-20 spool carriage. If you only wrap a few rods, with the same basic colors, you could go with a 4 spool carriage. That is the minimum I would consider. I have seen puctires of Joy Dunlops carriage, which had like a 100 spool capacity, and didn't even look all that big. I think it revolved so teh spool you plan on using would be on teh top giving you easy access to that color. I dunno. I prefer teh thread coming down off teh spool and onto the blank from teh top. Some people prefer underneath. I know the guys who I've shown trim band & inlays to, had a hard time with teh thread feeding from underneath.
