I'm not a big fan of "digital macro" and find them poor compared to actual macro lenes or close up filters, but this isn't too bad. Shot taken in full auto macro mode was poor compared to manual macro mode, however. Shot this at about 6 inches from the handle. Wouldn't look worth a hoot in the magazine but seems to be decent enough for use on internet. (ISO100 F8 at 1/30)

Canon A520. Very inexpensive camera and it does have one of Canon's excellent DIGIC color cells. What I was really trying to do was to see if any of these cameras in the roughly $200 range would produce crisp photos, up close. Overall I'd say no for print, yes for internet or email use. If you turn off the auto features and set the aperature, ISO, exposure and focus manually, then almost any camera in this price range should be about this well at this range. For prints or internet use at this size anything over 4 megapixels would be a waste.
