Stan - "only way to go anymore" isn't it? Light, sturdy, impervious to water full lenght of a reel seat if you so desire. Throw out the paper tape and cardboard tubes.

Never thought of using an arbor with wood, always reamed to a tight fit.
Arbor sure weighes less than any wood!!

This is the 1st time I've turned a wood grip using a foam arbor as I wanted a light grip but wanted to use wood. It was much easier to do than I had anticipated so I'll most lkely make a habit of it. It does make reaming to fit much easier as well as reducing weight. The "Fenwick" style half wells pattern adapted well to this shortened grip but most other grip patterns should work as well.
