You and Doc have posted some good stuff in the "instructional visual stimuli" department...there should be a separate catagory for these pictures.

Very well done. The best I have seen in 27 years of rod building.

Mick,
Thanks for the great photo of the prepped guides. Now I know what they should look like!

Thanks for the instructional photo. So that's what it's suppose to look like, Patrick and I have been close, but not that close. Now back to work!

Thanks and welcome. Billy, there was a post about a week ago on guide prep and I couldn't get my thoughts into words so I did this. Just took a while for me to get some decent puter time, with the wife and kids hogging it. Hard to describe how I like my guide feet. I also wanted to show that while pre-ground guides are better than un-ground, they still aren't good enough, at least for what I like.

Good going Mick. I think stuff like this can help people as much if not more that a thousand words. I have been thinking of doing a whole set of instructional photo collages on various subjects for those who are more visual learners than reading learners. Plus most of my relatives can read anyway, except my Dad he still buys Playboy for the articles. Yeah Right!!!! LOL

Michael, What tool do you use to prep the guide? Strictly hand filing, dremel, bench grinder?
Thanks,
Jeff

Doc, Playboy has articles?!? That would be pretty cool. I'm a visual guy myself. Sometimes one picture can flip the switch for me to understand things.
Jeff, for this and most others I do I use hand files. A large one to rough out, some needles to clean them up, and a round one for the bottom. If I'm in a hurry though, I will use a disc or drum on the drill press or dremel with whatever stones and/or sanding drums I grab at the moment, finishing with needle filing. Filing is relaxing to me so every so often I grab a few and sit down in front of the TV or outside and just go to it. I like to try and keep ahead and always have guides ready to go, but the rare times I'm in a rush, I never seem to have the type of guides required laying around.
