I've been lining my v-block wrapping and drying stands with felt from thrift store hats. It's denser and smoother than the felt you get at the hobby stores.

You can also use moleskin. Go to the drugstore and buy moleskin squares and cut them to fit. They have adhesive on the back that sticks real well and are easily replaced when they wear out.
