Someone must have done this before, but I haven't seen it- I've been working at braiding 3 threads and wrapping them as band. If I were better at braiding, I'm sure it would look even better, but it gives a different look. Kinda cool. Maybe someone knows a better way? Also, the split grip is actually a metallic black "dragon scale". Yeah, it didn't work. It looked awesome until I put the epoxy on, then the "scales" disappeared. Lesson re-learned, black thread work vanishes with epoxy.

The whole rod looks great. It's a pity the black dragon scales don't work. I tried it once and had the same result as you. The rod doesn't really need it though.
