What did you use to hold it in place as you went along? It really makes an interesting embelishment.

I tried several things and haven't yet decided which is the best. Color preserver works as good as anything. Now that I have an idea that I can do it, I plan to do a much more intricate one. I'm working on a signature now and will see how that comes out.
It's a simple wrap but it's somewhat time consuming the way I did it. It'll get easier as a I do a few more. I think I can combine more threads, although a single thread like this, in an endless loop (don't ask me to explain that) could be wound more tightly to make the thing a bit "busier." I think there are a lot of possible variations that could be done with this technique.

You start the same way you would do a single thread inlay - stick a tag end under your underwrap thread and also a tie off loop at the same spot where the thread exits the underwrap. You work the pattern or whatever around so that you end where you finish. Pull the thread back through and you're done. This keeps you from having to use the standard tie off wraps found on most cross-wraps.

Thats something you don't see everyday...like you said "lots of possibilities" a signature being one of them....where can I purchase the pattern? lol.

Now I know what to do with all the left over thread I have left over from my weaves. There was some experimentation with this type of thing quite a few years ago but never caught on much out here. Also combined with threads ducking in and out of the under wrap. Loops would be inserted at different points along the under wrap to pull threads through.

I can see why it didn't catch on. It's a simple wrap but somewhat hard to do. Thread doesn't really like to bend or conform the way you might expect.

I did a multi-layer version this afternoon - with a coat of finish between layers of thread. This is going to be interesting.

Tom, it is very clean and cool !!
What do you think if I try to do it also with different color threads and / or metallic threads ?
Ciao Italo

Could it be that one of the most orderly people in the universe has found a need to display Chaos in an orderly manner? I hope he does not show up in Charlotte with a piece of his ear missing! This weave does not meet the criteria of "simulated" - it is the real deal.
