I use a Grizzly drill powered lathe and I love it. What is that small dryer motor used for?

Im guessing the drying motor is turninga threaded rod that moves the mount holding whatever instrument is actually doing the cutting. (just a guess). Looks good but how do you shape your grip? It looks like this is designed to kinda automatically cut a straight grip. Am I way off on this?

Rufus you guessed right, i builted it to get me close to the outside diameter. If i do any shaping it would be with sandpaper.
