I see this as mostly hype. In the photos the main problem is simply that the guide is too close to the reel.

Good point. You can create any sort of effect for a photo. That's why I've always said that for casting purposes, the proof is in where the lure lands, not what it looks like.

Even the top one is about to have some slap. I hope this wasnt the best photo of the one they were promoting! Every guide is at a different distance from the reel.

Although this particular one looks like a joke, these type of guides are nothing new. I have one at home I'll have to post a pic of I bought three years ago in Japan. Popular here but only on "egging" rods, rods for squid jigging. Light rods used with light braid that's known for tangling easily. Not sure why they aren't used as much for fishing, but the guides are typically located quite a distance from the butt guide.
