Stan: I use all grades of cork, some pretty poor, for flocked grips. I watched Tom at Charlotte last year and followed his directions to the tee with the Cork Seal and all. I soon noticed that SOME of the ones that I did, on the exposed ends, adhesive stayed tacky for a week or more. I did some test pieces and found that the filler on some cork section was not protected by the cork seal and that the solvent in the adhesive was leeching and softening the filler in the cork. This stuff was turning to mush and the adhesive would not get hard in a reasonable time. I am now applying a coat of adhesive of a different color as a first coat. If you watch it in about an hour after application a lot of small volcanoes seem to appear all over the surface. I am now mashing those bubbles until they pop and you can see a hole in the first layer of adhesive. I am going back over the thing breaking all the little volcanoes and filling the hole with more adhesive on the end of a toothpick. I am also rotating the thing for about 15 minutes after flock application to get rid of the gravity induced line at the bottom where the adhesive tends to soak into the flock. I have done a lot of grips and now feel that I have graduated from Flockin 101 to Flockin 202. I am wondering how long it will take me to get to Grad School?
