Bill,
Well yes and no. Rod building is not my primary source of income, so yes in my mind it pays. I put some money in my pocket, I have an outlet for my art and I get such a rush when a client gets his/her first look at the finished product. If rod building was my primary source of income 60+ hours spent designing and building something like this would drive the out-the-door price through the roof and shrink my client base. I LOVE my "hobby" - As a business I would just become an unhappy full time assembly line worker.
