By adding cork tape to the jaws of my rod lathe the slipping problems I had were eliminated.

We both had the same problem, and used the same solution

I tried this fix, but it didn't entirely fix the problem.
However, I then took a mill and concaved the inside of the chuck jaws.
Then, lined the concaved jaws with cork tape and that finally did fix the problem.

I believe that they are now selling the chuck with an option to have the jaws concave with the addition of a concave plastic jaw face.
