Absolutely beautiful job. That wood is awesome! What kind of wood is it and what finish did you use? Was it hard sanding and finishing with the seat having the Mortise? What Bit did you use?
Thanks

Kerry,
The wood is a particularly burly piece of Cherry Burl. I use Tru-Oil, and dip it. I dip 3-4 coats before I do the mortise, then make the cut and dip 3 more times. This keeps the cut edge nice and sharp. I made the mortise with a Grizzly # C1215 fingernail bit unmodified.
I sand with 320 - 600 grit wet/dry paper between coats and use micro-mesh to finish sand and automotive white polishing compound to polish.
It really doesn't take much sanding between coats, so no the sanding is not difficult. The most critical step is making sure to keep the cutter moving at the beginning of the cut to prevent burning at the radiused portion. It is REALLY had to sand out bur marks.
