5 coats of flexcoat hi build and still not level. should i have kept putting more coats on until it levelled up or what?

The only way to get the finish completely flat on an open butt-wrap is to build the finish up and then block sand down the high spots level with the lower spots and then add a final thin coat. You must build up the finish until the low spots are higher than the actual level of the thread or you just end up sanding into the thread and then it's all over but the crying and the re-wrap!


What's happening is the thread is higher than the blank so matter how much finish you apply the high & low areas remain the same relative to each other.
