Inspired by photos seen on this board, I used a metal button that matched my reel as a buttcap. I am not sure if I like it yet. And I question its durabilty.

NICE!!!!! I use buttons, golf ball markers or coins inlaid on 95% of my rods. Very durabe. Inlay the below the end and fill with finish!! Very durable
