Roger,
Take the motor off the lathe, and take it over to a sand blaster.
Then, tape off the bed and give it a nice paint job.
This is a lathe that will last a very long time and give you excellent service.
Polish the cast iron bed and you will be good to go.

Roger
A nice cleanup, paint & polish will be my winter project this year. I'm still trying to get the shop area cleaned out and set up for more rodbuilding projects. Too many good ideas and not enough time to exicute them!

If you can keep your "dirty work" like lathe work and cutting out of the rod building shop in the house your rods as well as any house mates will appreciate it.
Yes, you can do dust abatment and do things to minimize dust, but it is much nicer to not have dust in the house or in the rod building area.
If you have a garage where you can keep the lathe and use it there, it is really a much better idea.
Rather than filter the dust, simply don't have it in the same building as your clean room - used for gluing and wrapping and finishing.
