You don't have any problems with the line piling up on one side of the spool?

NOT AT ALL, ever. Zero. The idea is to get the edge of the guide ring on it's right hand side never too far over to the left if spiraling left. You want that edge of the ring to still pass line straight onto the spool. And remember the last guide is really ON YOUR REEL.

Duane, here in Brazil is much used this setup for fishing vertical jig the great depths with heavy rods, I think very cool

That looks very good. I have yet to do a "successful" spiral. My I ask what type and size of guides you used to pull this off? Which spiral method did you use?

Like I said, I used Steve's Gardner's method he taught me a couple years ago. To start I used a 6mm ringed double foot casting Guide (closest to the reel) next came all single foot flys: 2-4mm ringed, and the rest 3mm ringed. The object is to get the line to make the STRAIGHTEST path from the reel to the underside of the blank. Usually this takes 4 guides including the stripping guide (closest to the reel) and you're there.


Thanks Marco, I think it's the only way to build a freshwater casting rod.
