Here is a rod that was returned and I was told that the rodblank splindered the first day it was used, when bringing in a fish!! Up to this point I had never seen a rodblank splinter like this !!I find it hard to believe this story !!

It may very well have broken while fishing, but it was damaged prior to the actual failure by some type of crushing force. You cannot splinter a rod by any other means. It was exposed to a crushing force prior to the actual break. Check the new issue of RodMaker due out in a couple weeks for how to easily identify almost any type of rod failure.

I wish the photo was clearer but I can assure you that this rod had suffered a crushing force prior to him "bringing in a fish." He may not have been aware of it, but someone or something crushed the rod. The thing is, even a slight crushing force, which may have left the rod intact and showing no obvious damage, would have then resulted in a failure like this when it was next loaded. I guarantee you the rod suffered a crushing force prior to the actual failure. Guaranteed.
