This is the approach I use to create the proper profile when turning grips. It is band sawed to the grip style shape and has 80 grit sandpaper contact cemented to the cutting surface.
I have one for each style of fly rod grips.
It works on both cork and grips made using other materials like: woods, acrylics, etc.
After the profiling, I finish with ever increasing grits to 400.

Interesting. Can you explain how you use this? Do you ust hold it up to the grip as it turns?

Yes, I hold it against the cork or other materials as I turn them on the lathe.
Works really great, using Kingspor sand paper that does not clog easily.

Slick idea. I'm going to give that a try. I have a couple of unique grip styles and this will help me get them dead nuts every time!
